MEDIA MARKET: Childrens
Music
Music for children is a much more stable market unlike the pop record business. While
the children’s music market can be slower, it has a much longer product sales life.
Disney sells over a million copies of every record over the product sales.
Styles of children’s music range from the same Contemporary Rock, R & B and Country to more traditional
Folk Music, Classical, Show and Novelty Tunes. There is a greater movement for
lyrical content that is non-sexist, non-violent, non-racially stereotyped that promotes positive self-images.
In an ever-expanding niche market where children’s games, CD Music, Educational Software, DVD Interactive Computer-Based
Programs and Toy Products all offer a wide spectrum of musical productions, many
children’s products are combining music, video, sound effects, voice-overs and graphics into Multi-Media Productions. From the development of animated characters in storyboard scenes, to interactive music
with game player and audio chips burned into toy products that use audio, there is a wide market in children’s music
productions.
Children’s Music is divided into four (4) separate markets:
Home Entertainment Market: involves music for entertainment however some products cross over into education. Such productions can include albums based on characters with some music incorporated
into games, live performances, stage shows and children’s theater
Educational Record Companies: CD’s that have a direct educational value for developing children’s language,
motor and social skills with entertainment value. Educational music productions
involve an understanding of current teaching trends, child psychology and intuitive sensibilities of child-like imagination.
Print Music Market: includes easy 2 and 3 part choral pieces for grade school and junior high school
Children’s Theater:
children’s musicals, vaudeville, variety and touring shows. Touring shows
also come to schools and provide children with their first exposure to music
and theater
