SIMPLICITY & FOCUS is the heart of creating songs that communicate
something in a unique way that everyone experiences or can relate to. There is
a common saying in all the arts, “Less is More.” Taking an idea or
concept and creating a hook that the song is built around. There is an art to
communicating the hook in a song that is understood by as many listeners as possible.
The following includes process stages to engage in Simplicity & Focus:
Stream
of Consciousness Stage: the illumination phase of the creative process where spontaneity of lyrical ideas are
generated and the “inner critic” is turned off; looking into the appeal and commerciality of subject matter; relatable
and believable themes, cleverness, messages, novelty, contemporary, target audience
Development
Stage: One or more song sections is written with basic song concept and hook being weel structured and defined
Verification
Stage: looking at the song as a product where polish and sizzle
is developed and expanded using the right lyrical meter and rhyme.
Rewrite
Stage: the creative critique stage where all the elements of lyrical content are weighed heavily and carefully
reviewed with regard to the key common denominators that make songs stand out in form construction.
