STORYLINE MESSAGE is where
all effective songs start where the subject matter is the raw material of the song concept.
It’s an art form to communicate the message, idea, intent, story or characterizations that has a fresh, imaginative
and unique storyline or message branding the song in a unique signature identity that is both interesting and enjoyable. Once you form the intent and trigger your subconscious to look for ideas, an
inherent pattern will form and ideas will manifest in profound ways. There are
many ways to explore storyline ideas included in the following:
Media News: local & international news, human interest stories, special assignment news stories
TV & Radio: talk shows on radio and TV, TV soap operas, MOW’s (movies of the week). It is interesting to not that writers of these shows are also listening to other talk
shows and movie themes for new ideas in their programs
Radio Music: listening to new artists and new material from celebrity artiasts can trigger new
ideas and inspiration for lyrical hooks, meter phrasing and ways to say something new that everyone relates to. Often there can be a bridge or verse section that inspires a song concept from the rhythm section.
Conversations: Listening to people talk and being aware how they use certain phrases, slang, experiences
and how communicate and relate these in their conversations can be a tremendous creative vehicle for accessing ideas. Friends will often speak in colorful and distinctive language that already has
a meter and title hook.
Life Experiences: personal experiences can be very effective and creative ways many writers can
craft songs. Turning these experiences into profound lyrics can be great material
developed into songs.
