LYRICAL PROSODY is the craft of using words that evoke specific
emotional meaning that matches the music emotional tone. The use of proper match-ups
of the lyrical emotion tones and message with minor and major song keys with the use of melody scale tones, harmony, counter-melodies,
rhythmic elements and tempo. Lyrical Prosody is always
altered with the interpretation of intent and is defined in the following categories:
Phonetic Prosody: phonetic properties of syllables or words relevant
to the measure of rhythm and meter which is referred to metrical units defined by accents, measured in syllables or feet in
poetry and beats in music; refers to both the abstract levels of music structure
and its acoustic realization in speech
Speech Prosody: distinguishes between pitch and time included in
the acoustic variations in fundamental frequency, amplitude, duration, spectral information and relative rhythms of speech
that reflects acoustic variations in the patterning of strong beats that coincide with some syllables
Emotional Prosody: directing the intent of the musical communication
emotion, speech communication of emotional states
Cultural Prosody: complex tonal and rhythmic structure acquired through implicit knowledge gained from long-term
exposure to a particular culture’s music, historical period, geographic region and indigenous musical instruments
Musician Obligatory Prosody: musical choices of physical variables
that give rise to perception of stress, accent, rhythm, intensity contour that includes crescendos and decrescendos
Linguistic Prosody: the study of grammatical and rhetorical accents combined
with musical elements relevant to rhythm in verses
